VCM Winter Run: What a fantastic day!

VCM Winter Run - sporty, atmospheric and full of motivation! Vienna's running community gave their best at the sporting Christmas magic over 5 km and 10 km in the Prater Hauptallee. 1,185 runners cheered at the finish line, 1,500 were registered - a huge increase of around 50 per cent compared to the previous year. Running is booming - also at the VCM Winter Run!

The atmosphere on the course was once again fantastic!

Although the westerly wind proved to be a slowing factor on the way back from the Lusthaus, it blew much less than forecast.

The new event area of the Rugby Union Donau Wien proved to be a great home base. Before and after the competition, the joy of running had a great place here!

All finishers received a handmade gingerbread from Pirker in Mariazell. Runners and fans got their energy back with bowls and drinks at the RAW Energy food truck.

Personal bests over 10 kilometres

Everyone gave their best, especially the fastest runners:

Jannis Bonek (29:55) & Lemuela Wutz (35:10), both from DSG Vienna, enjoyed personal best times in the 10 kilometre race. The orienteer Bonek stayed under the 30-minute mark for the first time: ‘That was my goal, it was a close call. It was a great event for me,’ he said. Behind Timo Hinterndorfer and Andreas Vojta, this makes him the third-fastest ÖLV athlete in 2024.

Lemi Wutz improved her best road running time of 36:02 by almost a minute and was just as happy. ‘The atmosphere and the whole event were great. I'm happy with my run, the wind wasn't that annoying.’ She is aiming for a good result at the Wiener Städtische Half Marathon on 6 April.

Belgian Thys Moreau from the Vienna Running Collective won the 5 km in 15:05 minutes. The 16-year-old Elena Koller (DSG Vienna) once again ran a strong race in 17:44 minutes.

Congratulations to all finishers!

Many used the event to prepare for the Vienna City Marathon weekend on 5/6 April 2025. The great interest in the VCM was also reflected in the very pleasing participation in the VCM Winter Run.

‘Running is getting younger and more and more women are taking part. Values such as health, community, social contacts and experiences as well as the personal challenge are important aspects of this development,’ says VCM Managing Director Kathrin Widu.

Interest in the VCM is higher than ever! Registration for the Wiener Städtische Half Marathon has been closed since the end of November. A waiting list has been set up. Starting places for the marathon (42.195 km) will also not be available for very long.
